This sandwich requires a few sauces – which I recommend you have in your refrigerator at all times. Russian Dressing and Coleslaw Dressing can be stored – and ready when you are.
Watch me make this fantastic, robust, sandwich – half is plenty for lunch – with some chips or pickles on the side – but for the big eater’s club, enjoy both halves!
Daryl’s Deli Sandwich with Turkey, Swiss, Coleslaw and Russian Dressing on pumpernickel
This delicious sandwich is a bellwether item by which to measure a deli counter and sandwich maker's skill. I like more of everything - the tangier the better. Half of this sandwich is a good lunch - so split it with a friend and then splurge on some chips!
Ingredients
Main ingredients
- Russian Dressing - this is a staple and should be made ahead on in your refrigerator 24/7
- Coleslaw - Dressing made ahead and stored in the refrigerator and slice the cabbage to order - depending upon how many sandwiches you are making. Extra can be put on the plate as a side salad.
- Sliced turkey
- Swiss cheese
- Pumpernickel bread
- Sauerkraut - optional but recommended
- Slicing pickles - optional but recommended
Instructions
Building the sandwich
- Toast the bread
- Put Russian dressing on both slices of the bread. Layer the turkey, cheese, coleslaw, a bit of drained sauerkraut and one long slicing pickle plus another dollop of Russian dressing, close the sandwich, slice in half and serve.
- This is a very wet, piquant sandwich.
