Pruning vines in the fall

We prune our trumpet vine back each fall.  This creates a much neater winter appearance and reduces the volume of hardwood for the plant to generate leaves which encourages the plant to dedicate more energy to flower production and makes for a more esthetically pleasing vine for your trellis, pergola, or arbor.  Our Trumpet vine flowers continuously from July to October.   We also strip any suckers off the hard woody stem which leads up the side of the garage all season.  The plant both flowers and grows continuously.  We must trim it off the roof as well.  This beauty requires some maintenance, but it is truly worth the effort.

For your efforts, you will be richly rewarded!
