The fall garden brings unique pleasures to the outdoor enthusiast. Harvesting mushrooms, for example! And some necessary tasks to tidy up for the season, such as bringing tender plants inside to winter over. We trim the agaves to make them easier to store in the basement and run “grow” lights for eight hours/day for six months – from November to Early May. Water them only a few times over the winter (they are used to a dry season). They will be very happy tucked into their beds for winter. Our Monstera, stag horn ferns, Philodendron, and snake plants are placed decoratively on the first and second floors. These tropicals require a bit more tenderness, including weekly watering and some plant food a few times, which will help keep them green and lush.
